Square item library questions

No, Square can't undelete an item. Once it's deleted from your item library it's gone, though its past sales stay in your reports. You can re-import an old export, rebuild it by hand from your sales reports, or restore it from a backup tool if you had one running. Our guide to recovering deleted items walks through each option.

No. There's no undo or version history for your item library. Deletes, price changes and bulk edits are saved straight away, and there's no way to roll them back from inside Square.

Not in a way you can restore from. Square keeps your sales history, but not earlier versions of your items. If an item is deleted or overwritten, Square doesn't keep a copy for you to go back to.

Archiving is reversible, deleting isn't. An archived item disappears from your item library and point of sale, but you can unarchive it with its history intact. A deleted item is gone for good. If an item might come back, like a seasonal special, archive it.

Check your archived items first. Archived items vanish from the item library and point of sale, which looks exactly like a deletion. If it's not in the archive either, it was deleted.

Because it was deleted. When you delete a category or a modifier list in Square, it's quietly removed from every item that used it. The items stay, but you have to recreate the category or list and add it back to each item by hand. The guide covers how.

Export it, or use an automatic backup. In the Square Dashboard you can export your item library to a spreadsheet from the item library's actions menu. It's free, but it's only as fresh as your last export and it doesn't include photos.
